FERRARI’S NEW FORMULA 1 MACHINE IS LONGER, BULKIER WITH NEW SUSPENSIONS AND ENHANCED AERODYNAMICS

For starters, the new F2007 has a longer wheel base and is heavier than its predecessor. While that barely shows on the exterior the additional weight to the tune of 10kg, will play an important role in fuel consumption. On the safety front, Ferrari has introduced what it calls a composite material structure for lateral protection of the driver.The modified chassis has been through a series of crash tests and now accommodates an all new front suspension.

Interestingly, the enhanced aerodynamics draw from the design changes in this new suspension. The side pods too, are bettered based on the new cooling system, which makes the car look a tad bit narrower at the back than the previous version. Engine air intake regulation is refined to suck the best out of the homologated 056 introduced in October last year. FIA has restricted engine speed at 190000 rpm for the ’07 season and Fiat Research Centre claims to have modified the piston set up to derive maximum efficiency at that figure. Brembo, Ferrari’s technology partner, has played an important role in upgrading the braking systems.

The modifications sound like an exceptional job of refinement to maximise efficiency and offer more driver safety.Whether the improvements will get them the constructors’ points and targeted race wins remains to be seen.

At the age of 40, Morrissey earns a seven-figure salary running a fund management company in charge of £32 billion assets. And her eighth baby is on the way. Richard, 43, who provides a private counselling service, studied philosophy at Trinity College, Dublin, and then law at Cambridge University. His wife, who graduated from Cambridge with an MA in philosophy, cut her teeth in financial services with Schroders in New York. She was 35 and already had five children when she was made chief executive of Newton Investment Management, a London-based investment company. Despite her high-pressure career, Morrissey says she does take maternity leave. And she claims to be a firm believer in the ‘continuum concept’, which dictates that babies need constant physical contact while small and defenceless.

‘Although my maternity leaves are short, they are intense,’ she said. ‘Then it’s a gradual handover to my husband and we have a nanny when I go back to work. We didn’t envisage having eight children, but in fact it’s easier now than when we had our first. I was 25 then and we were both working and running to and from the nursery.’ She added that fund management lends itself to family life, because the job is less about hours put in and more about ideas and results. A man who tried to keep bees off his property accidentally set fire to his house instead, causing at least $500 damage. Franklyn Pigott Jr. set his home ablaze while attempting to destroy a nest of bees that had formed outside the home. When Pigott, 38, mixed a product called Real Kill Indoor Fogger with WD-40, it became a “flamethrower” and melted the home’s vinyl siding.
